Here I am again!

Okay so I haven’t posted for a really really long time. Forgive me? I have started my internship with the Sidney Daily News here in Ohio and so far its been great. I’ve been super busy. Today is the second full day off I’ve had, and as much as I look forward to them I always end up bored watching movies.

So interesting experiences so far. Well on my first day my boss (Erin) and I had to go down to the sheriff’s office and take photos of about 1.2 million dollars work of confiscated marijuana. Needless to say she and I both had rather large headaches and I was seeing stars. Uhh.

Yesterday was a bit more frightening. I had to take pictures at court. There was a shooting over a week ago here(those don’t happen very often up here) and the main suspect was in court. I had to take a picture of him leaving court. Well he got a little too close for comfort, but I got the shot for the paper.

More fun things have been Applefest and at times feature hunting. Well I’ll try to be better about updating this.

Test results…and I don’t mean school

Sometimes I really hate my body. I am currently at work typing this(relax I’m on a lunch break). Any way my body seems to have a habit of going haywire on me. Which has happened in the last couple of weeks. So I’ve had blood work, an ultrasound and a biopsy in the last two weeks. Hopefully my doctor will get me on some anibiotics soon! I’m going to Vegas in less than 2 weeks darnit! I will have pictures to post promise! Sorry for not updating sooner.

Where did the time go?

So this entry isn’t so much documentary class related as it is life related. I had my last college class today. With the exception of finals I’m done. I can’t believe five years (really six if you count the year off I had from being ill) are done. It made me happy and sad all at the same time. I love this place, my friends, and the safety that’s school. I’ve had so much fun here at OU, so many great memories. I have to say thank you to so many people. First off the people at the AAC, specifically Sharon and Greg. Sharon, how many times over the years have I come into your office just to talk?  You were always willing to let me. You always believed in me, even when I’m not sure I did. You were my mom on campus, and I’m not sure I would have got through without you, so thanks. Greg, thanks for all the get well cards from when I was sick, for the support of CAP and also being a sympathetic ear, friend, and person who believed in me. You guys rock!

Thanks to Marcy for always pushing me, and taking the time to ask how my day was going. It was great having you as a professor over the years.

Finally thanks to Bruce for being a great professor and all around nice person. I’ve had a lot of fun in your classes over the years and will miss you. Really, Syracuse has no idea how lucky they are. I wish good luck to you, Claudia and the boys in your future endeavors.

TTFN,

Dawn 2 Dusk and other observations

•May 22, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Ohio University’s School of Visual Communications annual shooting project, Dawn 2 Dusk, was this last Friday. It was a lot of fun. I was up early to take pictures of Donkey Coffee & Expresso at 7a.m. I stayed there for quite a while that morning taking pictures of the customers and workers. Dawn 2 Dusk will be part of the Soul of Athens project that is set to launch in less than a week. So when you get a chance go to http://soulofathens.com.

Other observations this week; I’m tired. I am happy and not happy that the quarter is almost over. This is my last quarter here at OU. I have made so many good friends, and there are new ones that I’m just starting to get to know. I’m going to miss them all immensely. I will also miss the town that has been my home for the last five years. Athens is a great little niche. You get comfortable here, and then before you know it you have to leave. Time has just gone too quickly. I will save the rant about how stressed out I am till next blog.

enjoy,

Kate

Think I’m reaching that point…

•May 11, 2007 • Leave a Comment

I think I’m reaching the downward slide in the quarter. It’s that point where you question why you are doing this. You feel like everything you’ve shot is worthless, and you’re tired. That is me right now. So I’m trying to pull myself out of this funk, by watching something funny or thinking about good pictures I have shot. Good pictures are not enough though. I have to know what I want to say with them. Hence my main goals this weekend are to shoot and work on my project road map. This would help my project find some more direction.

On a side note, David Leeson from the Dallas Morning News talked to our video class today. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a man be that passionate about, well, anything. This man is passionate about photojournalism. He is committed to photojournalism, almost to the point it’s scary. He was very inspiring though, and it was just cool to hear that passion in his voice and how he got worked up about this profession. He wants photojournalists to change the world, and to challenge ourselves. I hope we can change the world through what we are learning, because lets face it, how many people in their jobs can honestly say they are trying to change the world while doing it? I felt when listening to him speak that we can.

later,

Kate
